Premolo, Bergamo – After six weekends of intense exploration, it’s time to take stock of the Golla Profonda cave, discovered in July 2022 by members of the Speleo Club Orobico.

The cave has now reached a depth of 200 meters, with two distinct bottoms presenting further verticals to explore beneath large debris deposits.

Speleologists are evaluating how to proceed safely with the explorations.

The cave opens at an altitude of 1960 meters and, during the summer, draws in air decisively, maintaining an internal temperature of around 6°C.

The exploratory potential is significant, considering that the nearest known spring, Nossana, is about 1450 meters lower.

Along the path to the current two bottoms, there are other branches yet to be verified.

One of these is a short, easily excavated meander leading to a shaft estimated to be about 30 meters deep, which absorbs a lot of air and water.

At the base of the third shaft, about 40 meters deep, bear bones were found, collected, and handed over to the Superintendency for studies and verification.

The explorations have been supported by CAI Leffe, which hosted the speleologists at Baita Golla. Special thanks go to Angelo Mosconi for his hospitality and delicious baked formaggella.

The research has also extended to already cataloged caves, with the survey of two shafts descended by other speleologists and the discovery of a new small cave.

Various members of the Speleo Club Orobico and the Gruppo Grotte Milano (GGM) participated in the activities.

Explorations will continue in the near future, with the aim of further descending the still unexplored verticals and verifying the branches along the path.

The speleological community eagerly awaits the next developments of this fascinating discovery.
